  • Science of Yogic Breathing/Pranayama Immersion

    Dr. Sundar Balasubramanian is a researcher at the Medical University of South Carolina studying cancer therapeutics, and Yoga. His recent research provides evidence how Pranayama (Yogic breathing) practices could promote wellbeing in the context of health and disease. Sundar is a member of International Association of Yoga Therapists and the Integral Yoga Teachers Association, and is an IAYT-certified Yoga Therapist. He is the Founder/Director of PranaScience Institute, and a speaker of TEDx Charleston 2015. His recent book is “PranaScience: Decoding Yoga Breathing”.

    This circle is open & friendly to participants of all ages, backgrounds, beliefs, and experience levels. We'll explore different types of mindfulness practice each week drawing upon a wide range of styles inclusive of both introspective forms of practice and social forms of mindfulness. Exercises will be followed by group discussion and exploration of our thoughts, feelings, and experiences within a safe, comfortable, and compassionate environment. Each week will be unique and every meeting will benefit from the perspectives of those who join us.

    Jesse Goldman is the founder of Slack-Librium LLC, an Asheville based organization that provides slackline & mindfulness instruction in schools, camps, & events across the country. Slack-Librium has been providing programming in Asheville City Schools since 2014 and has traveled to over 10+ states to share their unique brand of awareness-based education. Jesse graduated from UNC-Asheville in 2016 with a major in Political Science and a minor in Africana Studies. While in college he founded the University's student-run Mindfulness Club & created the annually recurring event, Mindfulness Festival. Since graduating he has dedicated his full attention to Slack-Librium and the development & facilitation of awareness-based curriculum.

  • Restorative Sound Bath: March 24th
    This Restorative Sound Bath lead by Billy Zanski, will help to slow our breath, and shift our brainwaves. As the powerful sound waves wash over our bodies, stress and worry dissipates, and our mind’s thoughts move into the background. Focusing on the landscape of peaceful sounds helps to activate the deep intelligence within our body and spirit.

    Billy opens up space for others to feel expanded, connected, and held in peace. Opening us up to a greater perspective, inviting subtle shifts and healing to happen spontaneously.

    Billy Zanski is an enthusiastic teacher, musician, and "helper in healing''. Sound healing and taking percussion into the realm of therapy has become the cornerstone of his sound shop Skinny Beats in Asheville. Billy has developed a mix of rhythmic and deep harmonic frequencies, from seeking out and learning from teachers across the globe.   • Slackline & Mindfulness Feb. 24th

    In the heart of the Winter, OM Sanctuary offers a warm & inviting indoor space to find balance - physically, mentally, & emotionally.

    Over the course of two, 2-hour workshops throughout the month of February we will strengthen our bodies and minds through an engaging combination of slackline & mindfulness practice. Slacklining is an emerging balance sport that offers an array of health benefits - from increasing focus & concentration to building leg & core strength. The sport offers an easy and exciting avenue to bring embodied movement into mindfulness practice. Slack-Librium founder Jesse Goldman has designed each workshop for participants of any skill level in order to accommodate a diverse range of individuals. All participants will have the opportunity to achieve personally set goals within a supportive community. If you show up and participate, you will make noticeable personal progression in each class - guaranteed! Each 2 hour class will include a blend of experiential mindfulness practice, reflection, group discussion, and of course slackline instruction & practice! Each class will revolve around a separate theme: Relaxation, Concentration, Balance, & Patience.

    Registration: Registration: $50 for both classes. $30 for Individual classes. For maximum benefits and discounted rates we encourage you to sign up for the series!

    About the instructor: Jesse Goldman is the founder of Slack-Librium LLC, an Asheville-based educational organization that provides slackline & mindfulness programming for individuals of all ages.   • Transforming Cotton Cloth with Dye
    Saturday, March 31st

    Enjoy an immersive, guided exploration with Jessica Kaufman, owner of Waxon Studio, through the infinite possibilities of dye + cotton! Using professional-grade, low-impact liquid dyes, and 100% cotton cloth, your instructor will offer an overview of multiple ways to create pattern and depth on a piece you will make and take home. This very hands-on class requires some standing while working on your piece. You will receive in-depth instruction on how to prepare fabrics for dyeing, how the dyes work, and different ways to fold/twist/scrunch/bind your fabric from dyeing traditions across the world. Ice dye, shibori, and batik will also be discussed! Enjoy two hours of joy-filled learning and bring home a handmade treasure. Participants can choose between a cotton t-shirt (let us know what size you’d like by emailing us) or a 27” square wall-hanging.
